Isabela Morales's first book, Happy Dreams of Liberty: An American Family in Slavery and Freedom, was published by Oxford University Press in 2022 and received multiple awards in the history of slavery, Civil War history, legal history, and Alabama history, including the 2023 Frederick Douglass Book Prize from Yale University's Gilder Lehrman Center.
Her current book project, tentatively titled The Black Widow of Hazel Green, is under contract with Liveright at W. W. Norton.
